Very Good Product Jul 25, 2010 I previously owned the larger amperage unit that I used for many years. It worked flawlessly. But it lacked the output protection the newer unit has. When it was accidentally destroyed by a shorted battery I opted for the smaller capacity replacement. So far, I'm not disappointed.
The Battery Tender Jr has performed exactly as specified, and has been working continuously for almost two months. I have two vehicles and switch back and fourth driving each. Sometimes one vehicle might sit for three or four weeks without being started. So I connect the tender and let it run continuously to keep the battery charged. This is especially important in winter when Northern Ohio temperatures can hover around Zero for many days. The tender takes just minutes to remove or attach using the battery clips, and my unused vehicles battery is always fully charged and ready to go.
I also have a Yamaha Big Bear ATV. The battery on the Bear is difficult to get at, so I permanently attached the extra spade lug cable that comes with the tender to the Bears battery. To charge, I just unplug the cap on the free end of the cable, attach the tender, and let it run.
I would not hesitate to recommend this unit for the purpose it was designed.
Excellent Battery Tender Jul 25, 2010 I bought this for my motorcycle to use during the winter season when I don't ride that much. I bought it based on popularity and many local autoparts stores carry them. They work great to keep the small battery fully charged at all time and ready to go. This is much cheaper than keep replacing the battery which cost 2-3 times more. I don't not believe they are designed for automobile battery, so you will be disappointed if you're going to use on the car. I would highly recommended this product for motorcycles, quads, mopeds.
Good Charger for the money Jul 24, 2010 I recently purchased a 1977 Honda CT90 that had been restored. Since it is 6 Volt system I needed a charger. These bikes will not run w/o a properly charged battery.
I worked well.
Battery tender does the job Jul 22, 2010 This is a nicely made device. I rest assured that the cars will start. It takes the headache and embarrassment of trying to jump the motor in front of a them. Now I rest assured that they will start. I have a 1974 Ford Mustang that are in my driveway waiting to be driven. My problem was keeping the car batteries in them charged. If I didn't start them like once a week, then the batteries would not have enough charge in them to start the motors. So to fix the problem I bought one of these Battery Tenders, one for each car, and hooked them up to extension cords running to my garage. Because they are out in the weather I also put drip-loops on each Tender which are sitting inside the engine bays) to shed any water that may drip down the extension cords and onto the Tenders themselves a good note on safety.I have had the Tenders hooked up since the summer and they work perfectly. They have a multi-color flashing light on them to inform you of the charge status of the battery. When it is steady red it is charging, when it is steady green it is maintaining, and when it is orange it means that the battery is either bad or that there is a bad connection. There is a written key to the LED embossed on the Tender as well as in the instruction manual. The manual is very informative and explains the charging modes The Tender comes with two kinds of hook-up leads, a alligator clip type, and a top-post terminal type ( that can be attached under the terminal nut. The five year warranty is a bonus. When I am showing either of my cars to a prospective buyer and they want to hear the motor.
Works Satisfactorily Jul 22, 2010 I have an old sports car that gets dirven occasionally and needed a way to conveniently keep the battery charged. In this car the battery is located in the trunk and has a cover held on with two knirled plastic nuts. It's a pain to take the cover off every time you need to charge the battery, so I was very interested in the leads that are included with this unit that allows you to keep the leas on the battery and disconnect the charger. This lets me keep the plastic cover on the battery and the leads just stick out on one side, a very neat arrangement.
The usnit seems to be working fine, after a couple of days the light on the unit went from Red (charging) to green (maintaining fully charged battery) mode.
My only real dissapointment is that the unit was made in China.
